Nomination Day

Have you guys ever heard of the saying: ‘politicians must be wearing diapers; they are always asking for a change’. But more on that in a bit.

I’m standing outside the corridor of my relative’s flat. A few houses down, the following scene plays out.

A dad and his two daughters walk up the corridor to their flat. The younger girl was racing, while the father walked with a sense of urgency.

“Faster Papa”, the younger girl beseeched as the dad fumbled with his keys.

There was a pause. Then the older girl spoke.

“Eee.. Mei Mei poot poot”. (Little sister farted).

I was standing a little distance away and I had to stifle a laugh. Lucky for the older sister, the girl wasn’t wearing a diaper. Or else, she might have had to endure the smell for longer. (And this post would have been about a diapered 6 year old.)

Today was nomination day. For my international friends, Singapore is having its General Elections next Friday, and today is the day where potential candidates become become candidates. And yes, dirty stuff happened today. But at the same time, heartwarming stuff happened too.
